Six Colorado Welcome Back Participants Receive Residencies!
Monday kicked off Match Week, an annual rite of passage for medical school graduates when they learn if they were placed in a medical residency program where they will train for the next 3-7 years. This year, six foreign-trained doctors who participated in Spring Institute's Colorado Welcome Back program were matched! Not only is this the highest number in Colorado Welcome Back's history, it also represents a match rate higher than the national average for International Medical Graduates. Spring Institute's program in Colorado also leads the national Welcome Back initiative in matches this year.
This is a huge success for Colorado Welcome Back, whose goal is to help foreign-trained healthcare professionals re-establish careers in healthcare in Colorado. These six doctors will join other foreign-trained health professionals in building a more diverse health workforce that strengthens cultural and linguistic competence in healthcare.
Siva, a doctor from India, was one of Spring Institute's participants who was matched to a residency program this week. He expressed his excitement at a Colorado Welcome Back gathering on Thursday: "I can't even describe to you how happy I am - I've been celebrating all week! And I want to thank Spring Institute for all their help. I went through all of the workshops and classes with Colorado Welcome Back. Most of all, I was able to network with people in the medical field here, and that helped me the most."
All Spring Institute offices are now located at 1373 Grant St., Denver, CO 80203. Please stop by and visit our new location!
